Our Heritage
The history of the indigenous peoples of Borneo (Sabah) is little-known to the outside world. Massage is an integral part of local native culture - they massage during pregnancy, after child birth, early in the morning, before going to the paddy fields and in the evening after a hard day at work or hunting - they massage the young and elderly to promote health and to help imbue a sense of well-being that is central to promoting a long and healthy life.
Jari Jari Spa (Sabah) is the only spa in Sabah to promote the little-known treatment of the Dusun, a Borneo (Sabah) tribal group whose home is to the north of Sabah's capital, Kota Kinabalu. Further respecting our unique heritage and environment, we utilizes as many local ingredients as possible, using everything from cinnamon (kayu manis), Cocoa and Coffee grown in the verdant Interior Region - used as a body scrub to fragrant screw pine (daun pandan), lemon grass (daun serai) and medicinally powerful turmeric (kunyit).
Our Mission
While the popularity of spa treatments grown around the world, the indigenous Borneo (Sabah) approach to health and well-being remains virtually unknown.
Jari Jari Spa is Sabah's latest location for high quality indulgence, with our Dusun therapists being carefully groomed, using skilled hands and aromatics indigenous to Borneo (Sabah) blended in sensuous oils that seep gently into the skin. The effect is completed with an atmosphere of soft lights and music. There is the sense of peace that comes from bodies and minds being gently de-stressed with a selection of thoughtfully prepared local blended oils and aromatics - the complete treatment for modern people.
The founders of Jari Jari Spa (Sabah) is descended from of one the most illustrious natives of the early 20th century, a Paramount Chief of all the native Dusun and Murut tribes of the Interior. They are proud of their local heritage link and traditions and their mission is to ensure that these age-old skills are preserved in order to promote health and a sense of well-being. Indigenous Dusun therapists are given the opportunity to share their knowledge and skills in an environment that incorporates the best elements of Asia's luxurious spas.
Our local indigenous Dusun therapists have been trained in the finer points of grooming and dealing with an international clientele, yet retain their genuine warmth and sincerity. As guardians of an ancient traditional, these therapists ensure that at Jari Jari (Sabah), the massage comes not just from the hands only but also from the heart.
